Twinning of the West Trunk - Brampton - Compression Ring

Compression Ring

Project Description

Utilizing circular ring design principals, RWH designed circular access shafts ranging from about 6m to 12m in diameter and 9m to 15m depth. The efficiency of compression rings for access shaft construction is hard to match using conventional strutted shaft design principals. Compression rings rely on confinement pressure from retained soils impose a compression force on caisson wall elements thus eliminating the requirement for steel in the design.
