The condominium at 45 Mann Avenue is a 9-storey building adjacent to the University of Ottawa, purposed for student residence. Shoring was required to facilitate the excavation for the one level of underground parking. RWH Engineering Inc. (RWH) was retained to complete the design.
Encroachment issues required the use of rakers on two of the four walls. Tiebacks were used on the other two walls where tieback encroachment was permissible, minimizing the number of rakers extending into the site. The tight proximity to the property line required the use of a 200 mm (8 inch) pile in order to allow maximum structure footprint in the site.
This efficient design by RWH aided the efficiency of the below grade construction.
