The construction of two new station platforms at the VIA Rail station in Oshawa necessitated shoring to enable the continuous operation of existing tracks. RWH Engineering Inc. (RWH) engaged the project, designing a system which met the stringent AREMA specifications for railway work.

Advent Long Term Care Facility is a 15-storey building comprised of retirement and assisted-living units. Originally designed with strip footings, a design change was needed when unexpectedly poor soils were encountered at the base of excavation in one area of the site. After a meeting with HCM and RWH, the structural engineer modelled the building for differential settlement using RWH’s helical pile design in the problem area.

The Brookfield Place is a full-block commercial development in Calgary’s downtown core consisting of a 22 meter deep excavation where RWH Monitoring (RWH) was contracted to monitor the stability of the shoring in addition to surrounding infrastructure.

This development on King Street in Waterloo required approximately 15,000 SF of shoring for two levels of underground parking. RWH Engineering Inc. (RWH) designed a piles and lagging shoring system with rakers to reach depths up to 9 meters.

The Sage Condominium in Waterloo required an innovative shoring system that could facilitate a 10 meter foundation depth while working within encroachment restrictions. HCM implemented a soldier pile and shotcrete shoring system which utilized a single row of highly loaded rakers, designed by RWH Engineering Inc. (RWH).
